barmer block printing

Ever since an inspiring trip to Rajasthan, India in January 2008 we have enjoyed using the craftsmanship of the Artisan’s in our KissinCussin designs.

This year’s LOLA collection celebrates the work of Barmer block printers in two of our stand out Spring prints.

Block printing is the main industry for fashion craft in the north state of Rajasthan and the sleepy desert town of Barmer is surprisingly the centre of this industry. Feeling a mixture of taking a step back in time to life BC and entering a desert scene of George Lucas’ Star Wars film, visiting Barmer was enchanting … mystifying … a romantic trip to another pace of life to discover a delicate craft whose origins date back to the year 220.

For Spring 2012 we have used a Barmer block print on body conscious Jersey fabric, the two tone block print with off white detail on a teal coloured base. In contrast we have used the same print on a billowing, elegant Silk Crepe fabric with a subtle cream detail on an off white base.
